My name is Dan Smith and I am a West Yorkshire based professional turner. I have been offering Woodturning demonstrations for the past 24 months with bookings increasing year on year.

My woodturning journey started when I was in my early teens around the year 2000. After leaving school in 2002 I studied furniture making and restoration, whilst working part time in a Woodturning supply shop. I then took a hiatus and went into education and worked in a school. Coming back to woodturning in 2014 when I set up Taylors Mirfield. 

In 2020 I was accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners.

In October 2024 I partnered with Katie Armstrong RPT to set up our teaching classroom in Mirfield, West Yorkshire

MULTI COMPONENT BIRD FEEDER 

The multi component bird feeder project is based around a readily available household object. It includes many different chucking methods, indexing and drilling. This demonstration has been well received by many clubs during 2025. It results in a simple but impactful final piece that is suitable for turners of all skill levels.

The price for an evening club demo for 2025 would be £175 (£185 | 2026) plus 47p per mile starting and returning to WF14 postcodes. I will appreciate that mileage costs can mount which is why in most cases I try to avoid stopping over as I am happy to travel home after the demonstration. 

I also offer full day demonstrations working alongside Katie Armstrong RPT to offer clubs two different professional turners on the same day with shared travel expenses.
